As a partner in De Grandpré Chait’s Insolvency and Restructuring group, Matthew Maloley’s practice is primarily focused on commercial litigation arising in bankruptcy, insolvency and restructuring contexts. As such, he rigorously enforces the rights and interests of his clients, in particular corporate debtors and creditors, during complex proposals and bankruptcy files.

Mr. Maloley has advised and represented stakeholders before the Superior Court of Quebec and the Court of Appeal of Quebec, notably in relation to proceedings under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act and the Canada Business Corporations Act.

His clients range from distressed companies, to financial institutions, commercial landlords/tenants, suppliers and manufacturers, major tax debtors (personal/corporate) and secured creditors seeking to enforce their security. He is also often called to assist trustees in the context of the administration of the estate of insolvent debtors and to render legal opinions regarding securitized assets.
