The Government of Quebec has ordered the shutdown of all companies and businesses for which services were considered non-essential from March 24 to April 13. However, if applicable, remote work and online commerce are permitted.

During this period of public health emergency, if you continue your business activities and they are not on the list of activities considered essential by the government, you are exposed to heavy fines and a reputational risk that can be significant. Indeed, under the Public Health Act, anyone who refuses to obey an order given by a minister, the Director of Public Health or a party authorized to act on their behalf is subject to consequences.

If you are unsure whether and to what extent your business can continue to operate, we invite you to contact your legal advisor.
